A permeable mall design that is able to accommodate the character of users who are “constantly moving”. An interweaving of green, blue and gray spaces into one unit as an embodiment of the concept of biophilic architecture. Building design is the result of considerations regarding ease of way finding, topography, and local climate context. Furthermore, we also designed the mall so that it can maintain the function of the existing urban forest as part of a sustainable ecological cycle.
The placement of building mass, solid and void is the result of intertwining axes that interconnect important functions around the building. This mall is designed to be a “continuous urban space” that blends “seamlessly” with the surrounding environment. We designed a “planned” signage system through the composition of the building mass that responds to the surrounding area, topographic conditions and user movement patterns. Provides convenience in finding your destination (way finding) and provides a 360″ view in and out.
The user’s “fluid” or “constantly moving” character is responded to through the placement of building masses that spread across the site perimeter. Creating “in-between” spaces in the middle that allow users to “move on” freely, safely and comfortably for all.
Apart from integrating the concept of biophilic architecture into buildings through the interweaving of green, blue and gray spaces. We also design semi-indoor-outdoor spaces that allow for optimal cross-circulation of natural lighting and ventilation.
